NEW COMMIT: Duke University has landed a new verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Olympic Trials qualifier Martina Peroni of Powell, Ohio.

She will join Kaelyn Gridley and Tatum Wall in as a member of the Blue Devils’ Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic & athletic career at Duke University! I’m so thankful for all of the amazing people who have supported me along the way. I can’t wait to be a part of this team. Go blue devils ??”

Peroni, who trains year-round with New Albany Aquatic Club, last competed at the Toyota U.S. Open where she finished ninth overall in the 200m fly and 15th in the 400m IM. In Summer 2019, she posted four top-10 finishes at Indianapolis Sectionals before going on to final in the 400m IM at Junior Nationals.

While she represented the Ohio State Swim Club, Peroni is also a National Age Group record-holder in the 4x50m medley, 4x100m medley, and 4x100m free relays for the girls’ 11-12 age group.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:51.01
  • 500 free – 4:55.86
  • 100 breast – 1:04.48
  • 200 breast – 2:18.56
  • 100 fly – 56.01
  • 200 fly – 2:01.18
  • 200 IM – 2:01.63
  • 400 IM – 4:17.00

Currently a junior at Olentangy High School, Peroni is already a four-time individual Ohio State Championship finalist. She was the 200 IM runner-up and placed seventh in the 500 free as a sophomore while taking fifth in both of those events during her freshman season.

She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts in the pool and in the classroom.

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before arriving in Durham, Peroni will make an immediate impact. She would’ve been the Blue Devils’ third-fastest 400 IMer last season and would’ve placed in the C-final of that event at the 2020 ACC Championships where Duke finished sixth overall in the team standings.
