Big Ten Women’s Championships Day 1: Ohio State Takes Early Lead

The 2022 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship kicked off on Wednesday in Madison, Wisconsin.

Defending champion Ohio State took a strong start with a win in the 200 medley relay as the Buckeyes are looking to repeat. They kept the momentum going and won the 800 free relay as well.

Michigan, Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the rest of the conference are looking to crash the party.

The first day of the women’s meet was a short session with just the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay.

Big Ten Women’s 200 Medley Relay

The Ohio State Buckeyes scored 64 points with a win in the 200 medley relay to kick off the meet.

Emily Crane, Hannah Bach, Katherine Zenick and Teresa Ivan touched the wall in 1:33.64 to break the Big Ten meet record in the event.

The previous record was set by Indiana in 2018 at 1:34.16.

Michigan finished second with Maggie Mac Neil, Letitia Sim, Olivia Carter and Lindsay Flynn (1:34.69), also an NCAA automatic qualifying time.

Northwestern’s Emma Lepisova, Tara Vovk, Madeline Smith and Jasmine Nocentini took third in 1:35.23.

Big Ten Women: 800 Free Relay

The Buckeyes continued their strong performance, winning the 800 freestyle relay in 6:58.17 behind Amy Fulmer, Paige Hall, Kristen Romano and Katherine Trace.

Indiana’s Anna Peplowski, Ella Ristic, Dominka Kossakowska and Mackenzie Looze took second in 6:58.60.

Michigan was third as Megan Glass, Kathryn Ackerman, Victoria Kwan and Olivia Carter touched the wall in 6:58.82.
