Big Ten Honors: Phoebe Bacon, Dominik Mark Torok Lead Awards

The Big Ten Conference has announced this week’s Men’s Swimmer, Diver, and Freshman of the Week for the week ending Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Dominik Mark Torok, Wisconsin
So. – Budapest, Hungary – Ferencvarosi Sport Altalanos Iskola Es Gimnazium

  • Notched four individual event wins, as Wisconsin topped Michigan and Arizona
  • Reached NCAA “B” cut times in the 200 Fly (1:45.50) and 400 IM (3:50.56), while his time sin the 200 Breast (1:57.98) and 200 IM (1:46.99) are among the best in the country this season
  • Garners his second consecutive Swimmer of the Week award.
  • Last Wisconsin Swimmer of the Week: Dominik Mar Torok (Oct. 18, 2023)

 

Men’s Diver of the Week
Max Miller, Purdue
Fr. – Conrow, Texas – Univ. of Texas HS

  • Recorded wins in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events over the weekend
  • Winning scores of 375.15 (1-meter) and 389.95 (3-meter) achieved NCAA Zone Qualifying scores.
  • Garners his first Diver of the Week award
  • Last Purdue Diver of the Week: Jordan Rzepka (Oct. 19, 2022)

 

Men’s Freshman of the Week
Davide Harabagiu, Minnesota
Rome, Italy – Canottieri Tevere Remo

  • Scored individual event wins in the 100 Free (43.96) and 100 Fly (46.11) to go with relay victories in the 200 Free and 400 Free relays
  • Performance in the 100 Fly met the NCA “B” cut time and marked the fifth fastest time in the country this season.
  • Earns his second consecutive Freshman of the Week honor
  • Last Minnesota Freshman of the Week: Davide Harabagiu (Oct. 18, 2023)

  • Placed first in the 100 backstroke with an NCAA B cut time of 52.60
  • Placed first in the 200 backstroke with an NCAA B cut time of 1:54.44
  • Placed first in the 100 butterfly with an NCAA B cut time of 53.10
  • Placed first in the 200 free relay (1:39.64)
  • Placed first in the 400 free relay (3:19.88)
  • Placed first in the 400 medley relay (3:37.70)
  • Placed first in the 200 free relay (1:30.83)
  • Earns her sixth career Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Wisconsin Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Abby Carlson (Oct. 11, 2023)

Women’s Diver of the Week
Daryn Wright, Purdue
So. – Plainfield, Ind. – Plainfield – Major: Retail Management

  • Won three of the four events at Purdue’s home-opening weekend
  • Placed first, on Friday, in the 1-meter with an NCAA zone qualifying score of 306.70
  • Placed first, on Friday, in the 3-meter with an NCAA zone qualifying score of 338.65
  • Placed first, on Saturday, in the 1-meter with an NCAA zone qualifying score of 300.40
  • Placed first, on Saturday, in the 3-meter with an NCAA zone qualifying score of 335.95
  • Earns her fourth career Diver of the Week award

Women’s Freshman of the Week
Beatrix Tanko, Nebraska
Fr. – Budapest, Hungary – Óbudai Árpád Gimnázium  – Major: Finance and Computer Science

  • Placed first in the 50 free (24.22)
  • Placed first in the 500 free (5:06.84)
  • Placed first in the 200 medley relay (1:46.25)
  • Placed first in the 200 free relay (1:36.27)
  • Earns her first career Big Ten Women’s Freshman of the Week
  • Last Nebraska Women’s Freshman of the Week: Milica Opacic (Dec. 15, 2022)
