The 2025 Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships continued with the Day 3 prelims from Minneapolis.
The Day 3 events for prelims are the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
Here is a look at what happened Friday morning:
Big Ten Men’s 100 Butterfly
Michigan junior Tyler Ray opened the day with a meet record to get the speed rolling in Minnesota.
Ray got to the wall in 44.30 to break the previous mark of 44.32 set by Tomer Frankel of Indiana last year.
Frankel finished third on Friday in 45.05, behind Ray and Indiana teammate Finlay Brooks (44.75).
Purdue senior Braden Samuels finished with the fourth seed (45.10), followed by Minnesota freshman Jacob Johnson (45.29), OSU freshman Matthew Klinge (45.39), USC sophomore Michal Chmielewski (45.40) and Michigan sophomore Colin Geer (45.61).

Big Ten Men’s 400 IM
Ohio State junior Tristan Jankovics cruised to the top seed in 3:41.81. The time was four seconds off his seed time, and we will see what he has saved for finals.
Wisconsin junior Dominik Mark Torok grabbed the second seed in 3:42.45, just ahead of Michigan’s Lorne Wigginton (3:42.54) and USC’s Krzysztof Chmielewski (4:32.58).
Northwestern’s Deigo Nosack swam to the fifth seed in 3:43.20, followed by Indiana’s Zalan Sarkany (3:43.81), OSU’s William Bansberg (3:44.28) and Michigan’s Ryan Healy (3:44.46).

Big Ten Men’s 200 Free
Michigan senior Gal Groumi dropped more than a second off his entry time to claim the top seed in the 200 free, getting to the wall in 1:32.54.
Just four hundredths of a second behind was OSU junior Tomas Navikonis (1:32.58), and nine hundredths behind was Michigan’s Eitan Ben-Shitrit (1:32.63) – the only swimmers to break 1:33.
Indiana senior Rafael Miroslaw took the fourth seed in 1:33.42, just ahead of Wisconsin’s Christopher Morris (1:33.45), who was followed by Indiana’s Dylan Smiley (1:33.62), USC’s Oliver Sogaard-Andersen (1:33.78) and Luke Maurer (1:33.88).

Indiana stunningly claimed the top five seeds in the 100 breaststroke.
Senior Finlay Brooks took the top spot in 50.42, followed by fifth-year Caspar Corbeau (51.18), fifth-year Jassen Yep (51.25), senior Josh Matheny (51.30) and fifth-year Brian Benzing (51.59).
Michigan’s Ozan Kalafat was the sixth seed in 51.78, followed by USC’s Chun Ho Chan (52.17) and Benjamin Dillard (52.27).

Big Ten Men’s 100 Backstroke
The Hoosiers weren’t finish with their morning move. Indiana claimed the top two seeds in the 100 backstroke with Owen McDonald (44.50) and Luke Barr (45.02).
Northwestern went 3-4 with David Gerchik (45.25) and Stuart Seymour (45.30).
Michigan junior Jack Wilkening was the fifth seed in 45.34, followed by Penn State’s Matthew Bittner (45.48), Indiana’s Miroslav Knedla (45.60) and OSU’ s Cornelius Jahn (45.62).
