2020 Big East Swimming and Diving Championships Day 1: Villanova Wins Three Relays
The 2020 Big East Swimming and Diving Championships got underway today at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY. The events contested today included the 800 free relay, 200 medley relay and the women’s 1-meter diving event.
Villanova University won three of the four relays contested tonight, putting them in a strong position for the coming days. Villanova and Georgetown are tied at the end of Day 1 on the men’s side, while Georgetown is on top on the women’s side due to their stellar diving performance.

Women’s 800 Free Relay
Winning the first title of the championships was the team from Villanova, sealing their victory over their nearest rival by almost 8 seconds. The quartet of Kelly Montesi, Gracie Wielar, Nicole Welch and Millicent Routledge finished in a time of 7:16.85. In second place was the team from Xavier University, who touched the wall in a time of 7:24.66. Georgetown University finished in third place with a time of 7:28.38.
Men’s 800 Free Relay
Villanova University won their second title of the evening, winning in a time of 6:36.55. The team of Stephen Krecsmar, Jake McIntyre, Noah Chernik and Justin Cucchi beat out a strong challenge to take the victory. In second place was the team from Seton Hall who finished in a time of 6:36.84. Xavier University’s team came in third with a time of 6:37.33.
Women’s 200 Medley Relay
Villanova took home the victory with their team of Kelly Montesi, Rayann Jaryszak, Micaela Grassi and Millicent Routledge touching the wall in a time of 1:40.44. Xavier’s team finished in second place with a time of 1:41.24. In third place was the team from Georgetown in a time of 1:42.70.
Men’s 200 Medley Relay
Finishing in first place was the team from Georgetown University (Andrew Carbone, Connor Morikawa, Michael Baldini, Sean Devlin) in a time of 1:28.48. Seton Hall’s team finished in second place with a time of 1:29.08, while the team from Xavier finished close behind for third at 1:29.60.
Women’s 1-Meter Diving
Riley Fujioka of Georgetown took home the title with a score of 560.30. Her teammate, Elizabeth Miller finished in second place with a score of 516.15. Bridie Dunn of Villanova finished in third place with a score of 511.00, while Margaret Barnhorst of Georgetown finished fourth scoring 489.00. Taylor Jackson of Seton Hall finished in fifth with a score of 484.00.
