Big 12 Championships, Day 4 Prelims: Kelly Pash, Carson Foster Aiming for Third Individual Win Each
With both the Texas women and men cruising to another Big 12 title, the Longhorns ended up with the top qualifying time in every individual event Saturday. While none recorded any world-beating times, a pair of swimmers are in position to win their third individual title each. Seniors Kelly Pash, already the 200 and 400 IM winner, led a group of five Longhorns as the top swimmers in the women’s 100 freestyle while junior Carson Foster, already with a pair of individual medley wins already captured, edged teammate Ethan Harder for the top spot in the men’s 200 backstroke.

While the Texas men have some holes in their lineup this year, the 200 breaststroke is not one of those races by any stretch. The Longhorns will get a chance to show that breaststroke talent in the final after Jake Foster led the way in prelims in 1:53.65, followed by Braden Vines (1:54.23) and Caspar Corbeau (1:54.66). Women’s 200 Butterfly
Texas owns the top three times in the country right now in the women’s 200 fly with Emma Sticklen, Kelly Pash and Dakota Luther, and that’s with Olivia Bray, an NCAA finalist in the event last year, eschewing the event this season in favor of the 200 back. Pash also skipped the 200 fly Saturday after racing in the 100 free, so Luther (1:54.85) and Sticklen (1:55.22) were well ahead of the field as they secured the fastest qualifying marks. Iowa State’s Winter Craig edged out West Virginia’s Mia Walters for second, 2:00.91 to 2:01.07.
