Big 12 Championships, Day 2 Prelims: Kelly Pash, Erica Sullivan Lead Texas Women
There will be little to stop Texas from filling the podium at the Big 12 Championships this week, and Wednesday’s prelims opener at the Aquatics Center at Mylan Park is showing that from the get-go.
Erica Sullivan took the top spot in the women’s 500 freestyle to open prelims, and Kelly Pash led the Longhorns securing the top five spots in the 200 individual medley.
An event-by-event rundown of the first prelims sessions follows. The evening session will include men’s 1-meter diving and the women’s team diving event.
Women’s 500 freestyle
Erica Sullivan led the way in prelims with a time of 4:46.06. Teammate Erin Gemmell was .97 seconds behind. Gemmell entered with the top seed time at 4:40.40.
Points wise, TCU has four A finalists, led by Jordan Edwards in fourth. Freshman Sydney Inman dropped nearly 5.5 seconds to finish fifth. Houston’s Eden Humphrey is in the A final in third.

Men’s 500 freestyle
Texas has the top three spots, with Coby Carrozza leading the way in 4:19.92. He was the top seed entering the meet at 4:17.52.
Second is Alec Enyeart in 4:20.34, followed by Manning Haskal. Cincinnati’s Alex Gonzalez is the first non-Texan. TCU has the in the A final, including a massive drop by Kornel Kohalmi from the 20th seed to sixth in in 4:25.40.
Women’s 200 individual medley
The top five times in the 200 IM belong to Texas, led by Kelly Pash’s 1:56.20. She was the top seed entering the meet. Second was Emma Sticklen, and the senior was the fifth finisher among the Longhorns in the morning. In between those two came Campbell Stoll in 1:57.75, Alicia Wilson and Angie Coe.

Men’s 200 individual medley
Hark, a non-Texan swimmer as a top seed. By .15 seconds, BYU freshman Jordan Tiffany took that honor, throwing down a college-best time of 1:42.84. He was just ahead of Texas freshman Nate Germonprez. The mantle of favorite might still rest on Texas’ Will Modglin, who has gone 1:41.84 this year. He was 1:43.97 in prelims for the third seed.
Brad Polo is also in the A final for BYU in fourth. Texas’ Alec Filipovic was sixth.

Women’s 50 freestyle
It’ll be five Longhorns in the A final of the women’s 50, led by Grace Cooper. The senior went 21.96 to win prelims. She’s the only one in the field to be sub-22 this year.
Ava Longi is second in 22.29, followed by Cincinnati’s Jessica Davis. Sienna Schellenger (fourth), Emma Davidson (fifth) and Alexa Fulton (seventh) also crowd the A final.

Men’s 50 freestyle
Grad student Cole Crane produced a massive time drop to finish first in the 50 free, going from a seed time of 20.59 seconds to the fastest prelims time in 19.64. He was .07 ahead of Cincinnati’s Jon Osa.
Seven swimmers broke 20 seconds. Four were from Texas, with Camden Taylor third and Peter Paulus fourth.
