Big 12 Championships, Day 2: Carson Foster Drops 1:42.04 200 IM
On a morning of customary dominance by Texas, Carson Foster managed to stand out by going 1:42.04 in the 200 individual medley on Thursday, the second day of the Big 12 Championships.
Foster was one of the six-for-six performance of Longhorns grabbing top seeds at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, in the first prelims session of the meet. The full recap:

Women’s 500 freestyle
Erica Sullivan coasted to the top seed in finals by going 4:45.16 in the 500. It’s nine seconds off her season-best time, the leading time in the country entering championship season. Teammate Olivia Bray was second in 4:47.69 with Abby Pfeifer third. Olivia McMurray was fifth, TCU’s Jordan Edwards sneaking into the equation.
Sullivan and Bray helped the Longhorns set a meet record in the 800 free relay Wednesday and sneak within a half-second of the American record.

Alex Zettle led Texas in taking the top six spots in the event, dropping 10.5 seconds from his season-best to 4:15.06. It’s been a slow season for the senior, who has posted 4:13s at NCAAs each of the last two years and appears to be rounding into that form again.
Luke Hobson was second in 4:16.18, .15 up on Jackson Huckabay.

Women’s 200 individual medley
Another member of that 800 free relay from Wednesday, Kelly Pash set the standard in the 200 IM by more than five seconds, in 1:55.72. She entered with a best time this season of 1:53.81, and she’ll have Madisyn Cox’s Big 12 record from 2017 (1:52.58) in her sights, either tonight or at NCAAs. Cox’s meet record from that same year is 1:52.82.
Emma Sticklen followed in 2:00.88, with Dakota Luther in third. Jacqueline McCutchan of West Virginia was fourth.

Texas monopolized the top four, and Fosters took the top two spots. Carson Foster went 1:42.04 for the top seed. He set the meet record last year at 1:41.32. Jake Foster is his nearest chaser at 1:43.31, .31 ahead of Braden Vines. Caspar Corbeau is fourth.

Grace Cooper paces a Texas run of the top four spots in 22.25. She’s the top seed by nearly a quarter second over teammate Bridget Semenuk. Cooper has gone 21.89 this year and will have her eyes on the meet record of 21.87 that has stood since 2009 in the hands of Texas’ Hee-Jin Chang.
Texas’s Ava Longi and Kyla Leibel round out the top four. Three swimmers tied for sixth in 23.17.

Peter Larson was out front of the Texas leading quartet with a time of 19.45. That puts him as the top seed ahead of teammate Daniel Krueger, who carried the top time of the season in 19.40. He clocked in at 19.73 in the morning, .02 up on William Chan. Charlie Crosby was fourth, and Conner McBeth was the lone non-Texas under 20 seconds at 19.82 for fifth.
