Baylor School Hires Rudy Aguilar as Assistant Coach

The Baylor School and Baylor Swim Club have hired Rudy Aguilar as an assistant coach, they announced on Monday. Aguilar will serve as an assistant for the upper school team and as a lead coach with the swim club.

Formerly a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Alabama, Aguilar joins a staff headed by Payton Brooks and includes veteran club coaches Laura Pittman and Brian Gill, one of the nation’s top high school programs based out of Chattanooga, Tenn.

“Rudy is an exceptional addition to the Swimming and Diving staff at Baylor School,” Brooks said in a school statement. “He has an unmatched passion and enthusiasm for the sport – his energy, fresh perspective, and knowledge as both an athlete and coach are exactly what we were looking for in our search. He embodies the core values and vision we have at Baylor School, and we look forward to welcoming him to Chattanooga as we continue building upon the rich traditions of our program.”

Aguilar won four conference team championships at Oakland University. He was the Horizon League freshman of the year and won four conference titles in the 200 free as well as being part of title-winning 400 free relays all four years. He graduated in 2020. He qualified to compete for Venezuela at the 2016 Short-Course World Championships.

Last season, he helped Alabama finish in the top 20 at NCAAs in both men’s and women’s competition – the women finished 14th with the men 19th. Thirteen Crimson Tide swimmers qualified for NCAAs, and 17 athletes were named to CSCAA All-America squads. Aguilar also worked with the senior group as an assistant at Crimson Tide Aquatics club.

“I am truly honored to have been selected for the role to assist him in his vision of where he wants to take this program,” Aguilar said. “Baylor has incredible potential for developing young athletes into prosperous young adults and I am blessed to get to be a part of that process.”
