Baylor Nelson, Texas A&M Men Take Care of Business Against TCU

A pair of individual wins from Baylor Nelson and some late 1-2 finishes helped Texas A&M’s men rebound from a rough early start against Texas Christian University and win the team’s seventh dual meet of the season. The Aggies left Fort Worth with a 175-125 victory.

Nelson, a member of the U.S. World Championships team last year as a relay swimmer, won the 1000 freestyle in 9:04.41, and he also topped the 200 IM in 1:47.84, with Munzy Kabbara placing second for the Aggies (1:48.23). To conclude the meet, the team of Connor Foote, Nelson, Seth Reno and Carter Nelson stormed to a win in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:19.96.

Thomas Shomper won the 100 backstroke (47.59). and 200 backstroke (1:43.97), with Tyler Hulet second for A&M on both occasions (48.15/1:45.81). Coming out of the first break, Reno won the 100 free (44.58) with teammate Ben Scholl second (44.97). Trey Dickey took the win in the 500 free (4:28.51). In diving, Victor Povzner secured wins on 1-meter (390.85) and 3-meter (427.10).

TCU’s team of Edgar CicanciJadon WuilliezPiotr Sadlowski and Raphael Pavia Da Lima appeared to finish a mere seven hundredths behind A&M in the meet-opening 200 medley relay, but the Aggies were disqualified, allowing TCU to open up an early lead in the meet. Wuilliez won the team’s first individual event in the 100 breaststroke (53.31), with Guilherme Camossato second (54.22).

Geremia Freri then touched out A&M’s Dickey by one hundredth to win the 200 fly, 1:47.36 to 1:47.37, and the Horned Frogs continued building momentum into the first break with Paiva Da Lima winning the 50 free in 20.78. Later, Camossato took first in the 200 breast (1:55.88), but Texas A&M ended up with too much firepower in the latter half of the meet to pull away.
