Sara Daher Leads Bates Sweep, Conn Men Top Bobcats

Women’s Meet
The 15th ranked Bates College women beat Connecticut College and Wellesley Saturday afternoon. The Blue also fell to Connecticut College.
Bates began the afternoon with a win as the team of Whitney Paine, Melissa Paione, Lindsey Prelgovisk, and Anabel Carter touched first in the 200 medley relay (1:49.30).
Connecticut Camels’ Valerie Urban (10:28.47) and Emma Rotner (10:42.16) finished first and second in the 1000. Rotner later topped the 500 in a time of 5:10.05. Bates’ Sara Daher touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:55.61). The junior went on to claim the 200 backstroke (2:08.50) and the 200 IM (2:11.05).
In the 100 backstroke, Wellesley’s Dorothy Ren was the only swimmer under a minute (58.54). Kristy Prelgovisk was first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.55), and later in the 200 (2:26.92). Bates senior Lindsey Prelgovisk won the 100 butterfly (58.12).
Urban claimed her second win of the afternoon in the 200 butterfly (2:08.36). Shannon Cry lead an impressive Connecticut sweep of the 50 freestyle. She stopped the clock at 24.52. Teammate Sam Pierce lead a sweep of the 100 freestyle, finishing in a 53.21.
The Camels’ team of Olivia Haskell, Cry, Juliette Lee, and Pierce won the final event of the afternoon, the 200 freestyle relay in a 1:37.92.
Wellesley divers were impressive, sweeping both boards. Defending three meter NCAA Champion Maura Sticco-Ivins scored 306.55 points on the one meter and 338.15 on three meter.
Men’s Meet
The 25th ranked Connecticut College men beat Bates 187.5 to 74.5 Saturday afternoon. The Camels began the afternoon with a win in the 200 medley relay. Trebor Lawton, Dylan Steiner, George Tilneac, and Michael Fothergill posted a time of 1:35.17. In the 1000, Connecticut’s Stephen Skaperdas was first to the wall (9:53.02). Teammate Alan Pite touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:44.23) and later the 500 (4:43.81). Fothergill claimed the 100 backstroke (51.92) and the 100 freestyle (47.30).
Bates secured a win as Alex Bedard stopped the clock at 59.33 in the 100 breaststroke. The Camels were back on top in the next event, though. Tilneac dominated the 200 butterfly by nearly eight seconds (1:52.72). At the end of the meet, he won the 200 IM in a time of 1:56.94. Teammate Niko Brosnihan was first to the wall in the 50 freestyle (22.01).
In the 200 backstroke, Andrew Eigner swam a 1:55.85 for first. Drake Freiberg claimed the 200 breaststroke (2:09.15). Trebor Lawton touched first in the 100 butterfly (53.13). Finishing out their wining ways, the Connecticut team of Freiberg, Brosnihan, Lawton, and Fotherfill combined for a 1:25.86 in the 200 freestyle relay.
