NEW COMMIT: Columbia University has received a new commitment for the fall of 2021 from in-state standout and U.S. Open qualifier Tristan Pragnell of New York, N.Y.
A talented backstroker, Pragnell earned silver in the 200 back and bronze in the 100 back at the Metropolitan Senior Championships back in March. In Summer 2019, he recorded four top-12 finishes at the Eastern Zone Senior Championships.
The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American has swam for Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics for 10 years and owns 17 team records.

His best times include:
- 100 back – 50.56
- 200 back – 1:47.35
- 100m back – 58.58
- 200m back – 2:06.59
Also competing for the Barbadian Swimming Federation, Tristan Pragnell competed in five events at the 7th FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest. He also won the 200m back at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships in both 2018 and 2019, and was Swimming World’s featured age group swimmer of the month in September 2019.
He also owns the Barbados national age group record for 13-14 boys in the 50m back with a time of 28.30.
Tristan Pragnell will make a big impact when he suits up for the Lions as a member of the Class of 2025 and will add valuable backstroke depth. He would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 back at the 2020 Ivy League Championships where Columbia finished fifth overall in the team standings.
