Backstroker Vera Conic Verbally Commits To NC State For 2026

NEW COMMIT: NC State University has scored a new verbal commitment to its growing Class of 2026 recruiting cohort, this time from Olympic Trials qualifier Vera Conic of Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

She will join Maya Schweikert, Emerson Callis and Taylor Schwenk in Raleigh as a member of the Wolfpack’s Class of 2030.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to North Carolina State University where I will continue my academic and athletic career! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for their unwavering support. I would also like to thank Coach Braden and the rest of the NC State staff for this opportunity. GO PACK!!”

A backstroker, Conic does her club swimming with Palatine Park District Swim Team. She raced both backstroke events at Olympic Trials this past summer before going on to win three events at Illinois Senior Championships. She placed 17th in the 200 back at Juniors West last December.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 53.11
  • 200 back – 1:55.96
  • 100 free – 51.54
  • 100 fly – 55.39
  • 200 IM – 2:04.11

Currently a junior at Rolling Meadows High School, Conic took second in the 100 back and ninth in the 200 IM at the 2023 Illinois State Championships. She won the 100 back at the state meet during her freshman season.

NC State finished fourth at the 2024 ACC Championships and placed ninth at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
