NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Patrick Morris of Suwanne, Ga. has announced his verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, beginning in the fall of 2022.

He will join Robert Tars of Greensboro, N.C. as a member of the Seahawks’ Class of 2026.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m blessed to announce my commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at UNCW, I want to thank Coach Landon, my family, and my teammates for helping get to where I am today! Let’s go Seahawks!?”

A talented backstroker, Morris does his club swimming with SwimAtlanta and most recently earned four best times at the Georgia State Championships last month after a strong showing at the 18&U Winter Championships. He also finaled in five events at the Southern Premier Invitational in March 2020.

His best times include:

  • 200 back – 1:46.40
  • 200 IM – 1:52.23
  • 200 free – 1:40.60

Currently a junior at Lambert High School, Morris is a five-time individual Georgia 7A State Championship finalist. He placed second in the 100 back and fifth in the 200 IM in 2021 while taking ninth in the 100 back and 15th in the 200 free during his sophomore season.

Morris is already at scoring level at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships.  This past season, he would’ve placed in the A-final of the 100 while his 200 back time is fast enough to have earned gold.

He’ll join a team led by newly-appointed head coach Bobby Guntoro.
