Backstroker Emily Morrissey of Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics Verbally Commits to Navy
NEW COMMIT: White Oak, Penn. native and backstroker Emily Morrissey has declared her verbal intention to continue her academic and swimming career at the United States Naval Academy as a member of the class of 2024.
Morrissey, who owns the Winter Juniors standard in both backstroke events, swims year-round with Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics and most recently achieved four best times at NCSAs. This past winter, she raced eight events at NCSAs before going on to place second in the 200 back at Christiansburg Speedo Sectionals where she also finished sixth in the 100 back and eighth in the 200 IM. Entering her senior year at Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School, Morrissey competed in the 100 back at the Pennsylvania 3A State Championship during her freshman season.
She told Swimming World:
“I am honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the United States Naval Academy. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve my country and be a part of such an amazing team. Go Navy!!”
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.87
- 100 back – 55.97
- 200 back – 1:59.42
- 200 IM – 2:06.10
When she arrives on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season, Morrissey will add her talents to a backstroke training group that’ll include Ashley Boddiford and Madi Milbert. Even with a year to go before suiting up for head coach John Morrison, she would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 back as well as the B-final of the 100 back at the 2019 Patriot League Championships where Navy won their eighth-straight team title.
