Austria Meeting: Michal Rubicek Doubles, Ties Czech Republic Record
VIENNA, Austria, April 26. THE second day of swimming at the Austrian Meeting held in Vienna featured Michal Rubicek of the Czech Republic doubling up.
First, Rubicek tied his national record in the 50 fly with a time of 24.70, matching his 2006 standard. He came back later with a 200 fly victory in 2:04.05.
Iris Rosenberger of Germany won the women's sprint fly event in 27.87, while Sara Isakovic of Slovenia almost lowered her second national record in as many days with a 2:08.91 in the 200 fly. Isakovia owns the Slovenian record with a 2:08.69 from 2007 Worlds.
Austrians ruled the 200 breast as Maxim Podoprigora took the men's title in 2:16.21 and Mirna Jukic claimed the women's crown in 2:25.82, a meet record.
Flori Lang of Italy topped the men's 100 free in 50.28, while Austrian record holder Birgit Koschischek missed her standard of 56.15 with a time of 56.40 for the women's title.
Romania's Florea Razvan earned the men's 100 back title with a meet-record 55.89, while Denmark's Pernille Larsen touched first among the women in 1:03.38.
Slovenia record holder Luka Turk finished well off his 15:07.59 record from 2007 Worlds, but still wound up with the meet record in 15:25.82 in the men's 1500 free. Compatriot Monika Mocnik, meanwhile, won the women's 800 free in 8:50.11.
