Auburn’s Cesar Cielo Goes Off Again, NCAA, U.S. Open Record in 100 Free
By Jason Marsteller
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 17. IN an incredibly fast heat, Auburn's Cesar Cielo swept the sprint freestyle events with an NCAA and U.S. Open record of 41.17 in the 100 free. That time surpassed the 41.49 previously held by Duje Draganja of California since 2005.
Meanwhile, Stanford's Ben Wildman-Tobriner became the fifth-fastest swimmer in the event with a 41.90 for second, while Texas' Garrett Weber-Gale took third in 41.94 to become the sixth-quickest swimmer in the event.
The win is Auburn's third in the 100 free in NCAA history.
Auburn continued to pile it on with 441 points, while Arizona owned second with 337 points. Stanford (315), Texas (258) and Florida (241) went 3-4-5.
