NEW COMMIT: Williamsburg, Va. native and high school junior Colby Hurt has announced her verbal commitment to Auburn for the fall of 2020.

Hurt does her club swimming with 757 Swim and is a seven-time Winter Juniors (or faster) qualifier. She capped off a successful summer season with 100% best times at Junior Nationals where her highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 400m IM. She finaled in both IM events at Juniors East last winter and posted six top-5 finishes at Virginia Seniors.

Also competing for Lafayette High School, Hurt is a four-time Virginia 4A State Championship finalist. She won the 200 IM and finished third in the 500 free as a sophomore after winning the former and taking second in the 500 free during her freshman season. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

She told Swimming World:

“Absolutely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Auburn University! Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey! I can’t wait to join my AUsome new swim family! WAR EAGLE!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:00.92
  • 400 IM – 4:14.27
  • 200 free – 1:50.11
  • 500 free – 4:53.64
  • 1650 free – 16:31.03
  • 100 breast – 1:03.52
  • 200 breast – 2:17.02

Hurt will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Tigers as a member of the class of 2024. She’ll have one year of overlap with Carly Cummings, the lone Auburn IM scorer at the 2018 SEC Championships. Hurt would’ve scored in the C-final of the 400 IM at last season’s conference meet where Auburn finished fifth overall in the team standings.
