Auburn Pulls In 2021 Verbal from Georgia 7A State Champion Abby McCulloh
NEW COMMIT: Lilburn, Ga. native Abby McCulloh has announced her verbal commitment to Auburn University via Instagram. She’ll join Ellie Waldrep and Rebekah Hamilton on campus as members of the class of 2025.
McCulloh, who has already achieved the Olympic Trials cut in the 400m free, does her club swimming with SwimAtlanta and is primarily a distance freestyler. She placed 22nd in the 1500m free and 30th in the 400m free at Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer and won the mile at the Southern Premier Invitational in March. Last winter, she was the runner-up in the 1650 free at Juniors East where she also placed ninth in the 500 free.
A current junior at Parkview High School, McCulloh is already a four-time Georgia 7A State Championship finalist and has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career thus far. She won the 200/500 free combo as a sophomore while finishing third and second, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.
Her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:49.04
- 500 free – 4:45.89
- 1000 free – 9:57.16
- 1650 free – 16:25.45
- 200 fly – 2:00.95
- 400 IM – 4:19.50
Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, McCulloh will make a big impact in the Tigers’ freestyle group. She would’ve scored in the top-16 of the mile as well as placed in the C-final of the 500 free at the 2019 SEC Championships where Auburn finished fifth overall in the team standings. She has seen some pretty consistent time drops over the past two seasons, shaving off eight seconds in the 500 free, 19 seconds in the 1000 free, and 20 seconds in the mile.
