Auburn Opens 2023 Recruiting With Verbal Pledge From U.S. Open Qualifier Wyllo Hanson
NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has officially entered the Class of 2023 recruiting game, picking up their first verbal commitment from U.S. Open qualifier Wyllo Hanson out of Williamsburg, Virginia.
She told Swimming World:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to Auburn University! I knew as soon as I met the team and coaches it is where I should be. Can’t wait for 2023 to continue my academic and swim career on The Plains! Very thankful for my coaches, teammates and family for getting me where I am today! WAR EAGLE! #WDE”
Primarily a sprint freestyler, Hanson does her club swimming with Coast Guard Blue Dolphins and most recently sprinted to 13th in the 50m free at the Speedo Summer East Championships after taking ninth in the 100m free at Richmond Futures. She also earned bronze in the 100m free at Virginia Seniors to kick off her stellar 2021 long course season.
Hanson had a great showing at the ISCA International Senior Cup in March, earning silver in the 50m free and finaling in four additional events. She picked up eight lifetime bests at that meet, too.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.56
- 100 free – 50.15
- 200 free – 1:49.83
- 50m free – 26.39
- 100m free – 57.21
- 200m free – 2:05.54
Also competing for Jamestown High School, Hanson was the 50 free runner-up at the Virginia Class 4 State Championships as a freshman where she also took fourth in the 500 free.
Although not at SEC Championship scoring level just yet, Hanson still has just under two years to go before suiting up for Auburn. Given her rate of improvement over the past year, she will surely make a big splash both individually and on relays.
