Auburn Adds 2020 Verbal from Freestyler/Backstroker Peter Makin of Nation’s Capital
NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has gained a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Fairfax, Va. freestyler and backstroker Peter Makin.
Makin, who swims year-round with Nation’s Capital Swim Club, owns five Summer Juniors standards. He most recently competed at NCSAs where his highest finish was a 22nd-place showing in the 200 back after recording a best time in the 200 IM at the Potomac Valley Championships. This past summer, he raced five events at Junior Nationals and had a trio of top-12 finishes at Potomac Valley LCM Championships.
Also competing for Fairfax High School, Makin is a six-time Virginia 6A State Championship finalist. He was the 100 free runner-up and took fourth in the 200 free as a junior after placing third and fourth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. Makin has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.
He told Swimming World:
“I’m super excited and proud to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Auburn University! I couldn’t have done it without all my friends, family, coaches, and teammates who’ve helped me along the way. War Eagle!”
His best times include:
- 50 free – 21.10
- 100 free – 45.63
- 200 free – 1:38.58
- 100 back – 49.13
- 200 back – 1:47.74
Although he’s not in scoring range just yet at the SEC Championships, Makin has continuously made improvements each season with well over a year to go before arriving at Auburn. When he suits up for the Eagles as a member of the class of 2024, Makin will add his talents to training groups that’ll include Christian Sztolcman, Josh Dannhauser and Christian Ginieczki.
