As Young Career Continues to Surge, Ilya Kharun Joins Social Kick Podcast
During the early portion of this collegiate season, Arizona State’s Ilya Kharun has been posting times typically associated with the NCAA championship season. The Sun Devil standout has unloaded stellar times in his go-to butterfly events, while also dropping several impressive marks in the 50 freestyle. As Arizona State defends its NCAA crown under coach Herbie Behm, Kharun will obviously play a huge role.
Recently, Kharun spent time with the hosts of the Social Kick Podcast and discussed the ongoing college campaign with John Mullen, Bryan Lundquist and Luke Paddington. While Kharun has been superb for Arizona State, this season has brought change in Tempe, including Behm taking over as head coach following Bob Bowman departing to take the reins at Texas. The roster has also undergone some changes. What hasn’t changed, though, is the speed flashed in the desert.
Although Kharun is currently dominating in the short-course pool, he is coming off a spectacular summer in which he captured a pair of bronze medals for Canada at the Olympic Games in Paris. Racing at La Defense Arena, Kharun earned bronze medals in the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly in the French capital, thanks to respective times of 50.45 and 1:52.80.
Enjoy the interview with Kharun, who figures to be a longtime cog for Canada in international competition.
