Army West Point Secures Verbal From Junior National 200 Breast Finalist Evan Yoo
NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Evan Yoo of Redondo Beach, Calif. will head to the East Coast next fall after verbally committing to Army West Point.
He will join James Don, Jackson Pogue and Ian Shahan in West Point as a member of Army’s Class of 2025.
A talented breaststroker, Yoo trains year-round with Beach Cities Swimming and finished sixth in the 200 breast at Carlsbad Sectionals in March. He placed 10th in the 200 breast at Juniors West in December and won that event at the MVN Summer Junior Olympics last summer.
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 55.91
- 200 breast – 1:59.52
- 200 IM – 1:51.44
- 400 IM – 4:06.68
Also competing for Notre Dame High School, Yoo finished 14th in the 100 breast at the CIF State Championships during his sophomore season. He placed seventh in that event as well as 17th in the 200 IM at the 2019 CIF Southern DI Section Championships as well.
Yoo is a huge get for Army, as his best times in the 100/200 breast would’ve scored in the A-final at least year’s conference meet. Under head coach Brandt Nigro, the Black Knights finished second in the team standings at the 2020 Patriot League Championships.
