NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has gained yet another verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond, this time from Conway, Arkansas native Ty Wingfield.

Primarily a sprint freestyler, Wingfield does his club swimming with The Aquakids, Inc. and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 50 free. He most recently competed at Columbia Speedo Sectionals where he finished third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free after winning the former event at Arkansas Seniors. Wingfield, who has only recently turned his attention to swimming year-round, raced the splash-and-dash at Juniors East in December. Also competing for Conway High School East, he won the 50 free and earned bronze in the 100 free during his sophomore season at the Arkansas 6A/7A State Championships.

He told Swimming World:

“I am more than excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my education and athletic career at Auburn University. The coaching staff and swimmers make me feel at home and I feel that Auburn is where I am meant to be. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me as an Auburn Tiger. WAR EAGLE!!!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.59
  • 100 free – 45.86
  • 200 free – 1:50.93

Recently-appointed Auburn head coach Gary Taylor has turned much of his recruiting focus toward sprinters, and Wingfield will add valuable depth when he suits up for the Eagles in the fall of 2020.
