Arizona Wildcats Swim Past Northern Arizona, Southern Illinois

The Arizona Wildcats defeated Northern Arizona and Southern Illinois in a pair of non-conference dual meets on Friday.
The Wildcat women came out on top with scores of 177-118 over the Salukis and 180-117 over the Lumberjacks while Arizona’s men defeated SIU with 212-79. The Cats took the top spot in 16 of 24 individual events and secured two of four relay wins.
Freshman Kelsey Wasikowski continued her strong season for Arizona, taking first in the 100 (1:04.32) and 200 breast (2:20.55).
Ava Sutphin won the 1000 free (10:04.85). Tia Lindsay won the 200 free in 1:46.59. Julia Heimstead won the 100 free (50.42). Daisy Anderson won the 200 fly (2:05.25).
Arizona men with double first place finishes were Ralph Daleiden in the 100 (44.08) and 200 (1:32.43) freestyles and Haakon Naughton in the 100 (48.69) and 200 (1:49.25) flys.
Mason Nyboer won the 1000 free (9:15.14). Ryan Purdy won he 100 backstroke (48.44). Daniel Young won the 100 breast (56.45). Tommy Palmer won the 50 free (20.53). Sean Christianson won the 200 back (1:51.85). Jake Hand won the 200 breaststroke (2:04.93). Hayden Ghufram won the 500 free (4:37.46).
On the diving side, Arizona junior Brooke Earley and sophomore Gage DuBois took first place in the 1-meter and 3-meter men’s and women’s events.
Northern Arizona’s Elsa Musselman won the 50 free in 24.01 and 100 butterfly (56.23). Maddy Rey won the 400 IM (4:31.90).
Southern Illinois’ Celia Pulido won the 100 backstroke in 54.75 and the 200 backstroke in 1:59.66. Beatriz Padron Salazar won the 500 free (5:05.69).
