Arizona Swims to Sweep of Grand Canyon, Led by Paige Armstrong, Mason Nyboer

The Arizona men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Grand Canyon University on Friday in a non-conference dual meet.

The Arizona men won 180-105 and the women won 203-89.

The Wildcats opened the men’s meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as Ryan Purdy, Daniel Young, Haakon Naughton and Tommy Palmer clocked a 1:29.39.

Mason Nyboer won the 1000 free (9:31.55) and 500 free (4:37.45). Orion Henderson won the 200 free (1:39.30). Purdy won the 100 backstroke (48.20) and 100 free (44.60). Young won the 100 breast (55.72). Palmer won the 50 free (20.64). Will Meyers won the 200 back (1:50.68). Naughton won the 100 fly (48.62).

Arizona’s Gage Dubois won 1-meter diving with 332.02 points and 3-meter (355.80).

Grand Canyon’s Jonathan Rom won the 200 breaststroke in 2:02.38.

In the women’s meet, Arizona’s Paige Armstrong, Maddy Ahiuwalia, Julia Heimstead and Alyssa Schwengel won the 200 medley relay in 1:41.70 and the Wildcats continued the momentum.

Ava Sutphin won the 1000 free (10:27.31). Armstrong won the 100 backstroke (56.58) and 200 back (2:04.22). Kelsey Wasikowski won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.76) and 200 breast (2:16.73). Heimstead won the 200 butterfly (1:58.62) and 500 free (4:56.55). Elisabeth Timmer won the 50 free (23.59) and 100 free (51.16). Tia Lindsay won the 200 free.

Arizona’s Brooke Earley won 1-meter diving (284.03) and 3-meter (285.97).

Grand Canyon’s Paula Martinez Moreno won the 100 butterfly in 55.76.
