Arizona State’s Head of High Performance Services for Aquatic Sports Keenan Robinson sat down with the Central Virginia Sports Performance podcast recently and candidly talked about training swimmers.

Robinson discussed training swimmers of all levels (youth, to college, to the Olympics), building a training culture that complements the training in the water, the importance of the aerobic system in swimming, and the future of training for the sport.

Robinson is one of the top athletic trainers in swimming today, and recently made the move to Tempe to follow Arizona State head coach Bob Bowman as well as one of his star clients in Michael Phelps.

Robinson has been Phelps’ head strength and conditioning coach for the bulk of his career.

Bowman and Robinson coached together at Michigan, and Robinson also served as the head training for the 2012 USA Swimming Olympic team. Robinson continues to work with the pros that train in Tempe, including Phelps and Allison Schmitt as well as redshirt swimmers that have make their way to Tempe during the 2016 Olympic year like Chase Kalisz.
