Arizona State Sun Devils Add 2020 Verbal from Mission Viejo’s Nick Williams
NEW COMMIT: The Sun Devils have a new addition to their class of 2024 after receiving a verbal commitment from Mission Viejo, Calif. native Nick Williams who will arrive at Arizona State next fall.
A versatile swimmer, Williams does his club swimming with Mission Viejo Nadadores and owns the U.S. Open cut in the 200m IM with two additional Summer Juniors standards. He most recently earned 100% best times at Junior Nationals this past summer where his highest finish was a 12th-place showing in the 200m IM. Last winter, he raced five events at Juniors West before going on to place 12th in the 400 IM at Carlsbad Sectionals.
He told Swimming World:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to Arizona State University. I would like to thank everyone that has helped in and outside of the pool especially my coaches, family, and friends who have supported me throughout my life.“
His best times include:
- 200 IM – 1:51.64
- 400 IM – 3:57.66
- 100 back – 52.92
- 200 back – 1:51.82
- 200 fly – 1:52.18
Williams has seen some pretty big time drops over the past two years, shaving off four seconds in the 200 fly, six in the 200 IM, 10 in the 400 IM. When he arrives in Tempe at the start of the 2020-21 season, he’ll have one year of overlap with Grant House, who took fourth in the 200 IM at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships where the Sun Devils finished fourth overall in the team standings.
