Arizona State Champion Kalli Fama Verbals to Michigan for Class of 2024
NEW COMMIT: Michigan has earned a 2020 verbal commitment from Gilbert, Az. native and high school junior Kalli Fama who will join Casey Chung as a member of the class of 2024.
Fama swims year-round with Rio Salado Swim Club and owns four Winter Junior cuts. She competed in four events at Junior Nationals this past summer after winning the 200m back with four additional top-8 performances at the Arizona LCM Senior Championships. She won both the 200 free and 200 back at Arizona SCY Seniors in March and had four second-swims at Four Corner Speedo Sectionals.
Currently a junior at Perry High School, Fama is a six-time Arizona State Championship finalist. She won the 100 free and was runner-up in the 200 free as a junior, and the NISCA All-American also won the 200 free and was the 100 back runner-up during her sophomore season and finished second in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 IM as a freshman.
She told Swimming World:
“Beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and further my education at The University of Michigan. Thank you to my family, teammates, and coaches who have helped me on this journey. #GoBlue!”
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 56.06
- 200 back – 1:59.41
- 100 free – 50.13
- 200 free – 1:48.45
Fama will add valuable freestyle and backstroke depth when she arrives in Ann Arbor for the start of the 2020-21 season. Although she sits just outside of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships, she has continuously improved each season: over the past two years, she has dropped two seconds from the 100 free and three from both the 200 free and 200 back.
