SANTA CLARA, California, June 22. TUCSON Ford’s Kevin Cordes had a strong back half to win the men’s 100-meter breast at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara.
Cordes blasted his way to a winning time of 1:00.91 after trailing Felipe Lima at the wall. Mike Alexandrov wound up second overall in 1:01.65 with Lima fading to third in 1:01.78. That’s Cordes’ second breaststroke win of the meet after taking the 200 breast earlier in the meet.
Club Wolverine’s Richard Funk (1:02.19), Bulldogs’ Nic Fink (1:02.52), Trojan’s Azad Al-Barazi (1:02.52), NCAP’s Chuck Katis (1:03.17), PASA’s BJ Johnson (1:03.25) and Portugal’s Carlos Almeida (1:03.30) comprised the rest of the championship finale.
Mexico’s Miguel De Lara Ojeda won the B final in 1:03.56 with Matt Elliott touching just behind with a 1:03.57. Missouri’s Sam Tierney finished a close third in 1:03.76.
PCSC’s Matthew Ackman (1:03.82), Wisconsin’s Nick Schafer (1:03.87), PASA’s Brandon Fischer (1:04.05), Nitro’s Cole Hurwitz (1:04.11), Hunter Cobleigh (1:04.35) and Arizona Aquatics’ Carl Mickelson (1:04.39) also did battle in the B final.
