Bulldogs’ Shannon Vreeland cashed the first check of the Arena Grand Prix with a 1:43.57 for the win. That swim is a huge in-season best, clearing the 1:44.66 she set at the 2012 Georgia Fall Invitational.
Elizabeth Beisel, swimming for Gator Swim Club, took second in 1:43.91. That’s a huge time drop for Beisel considering she hadn’t broken 1:46 until this morning as she had a personal best of 1:46.05 from 2008.
Hurricane’s Katie Hoff turned in a third-place time of 1:44.46, nearly matching her most recent top time of 1:44.16 from February. Her lifetime best is a 1:43.10 from well back in 2007.
Mission Viejo’s Katie McLaughlin (1:44.95), Tucson Ford’s Margo Geer (1:45.55), Tori Simenec (1:45.84), Kiera Janzen (1:47.23) and Megan Romano (1:48.00) also contested the championship finale.
Madeline Hoch touched out Jessica Plant in the B final, 1:46.52 to 1:46.62, while Lauren Votava also cleared 1:47 for third in 1:46.94.
La Mirada’s Taylor Ault (1:47.93), Karlee Bispo (1:48.42), NBAC’s Becca Mann (1:48.43), Aquajets’ Zoe Avestruz (1:48.48) and Phoenix’ Rhi Jeffrey (1:49.57) also competed in the B final.

NBAC’s Conor Dwyer started off a tough double that will close out with the 400 IM tonight as he put up a 1:33.69 to win the men’s 200-yard free by a body length.
California’s Nathan Adrian, typically a 50 and 100 freestyler, stretched it out a bit to claim a second-place check with a 1:34.87. That’s his in-season best, as he beat the 1:35.37 from the 2008 Husky Invitational while competing for the Golden Bears collegiately.
SwimMAC’s Tyler Clary, another difficult double swimmer with the 400 IM later, took third in 1:34.97.

Women’s 100 fly
Beata Nelson, 16, of Southwest Aquatic Team crushed her 15-16 National Age Group record in the 100-yard fly with a 51.08 this evening at the Arena Grand Prix in Minnesota.
Last week, she set the record with a national high school mark of 51.70 at the Wisconsin high school state championships.
That performance lowered Katie McLaughlin’s high school and national age group record of 51.78 from earlier this year.
Nelson’s stunning time of 51.08 is already under the 17-18 national age group record of 51.18 set by Natalie Coughlin back in 2001. With this time of a swim, we could be witnessing the dawning of a new legend in the sport.
McLaughlin took second tonight in 52.27 with Daniel Nack winding up third in 53.06.
Becca Weiland (53.14), Tori Simenec (53.26), Lisa Boyce (53.97), Dominique Bouchard (54.16) and Devin Ste Marie (54.41) also turned in times in the A finale.
Tevyn Waddell won the B final in 53.96 with Shannon Vreeland taking second in 54.05.
Annie Ochitwa (54.10), Blake Zeiger (54.26), Marie-Pier Couillard (54.44), Zoe Avestruz (54.52), Kelsey Drake (54.57) and Ruby Martin (55.15) also swam in the consolation heat.
