Another One for the Cardinal: South Carolina State Champion Kirsti McEnroe Verbals to Stanford
NEW COMMIT: It has been a great Tuesday for the Cardinal, as Stanford University has just received their second verbal commitment of the day for the fall of 2022 from Kirsti McEnroe of Spartanburg, S.C.
There will be some sibling rivalry in the family since her older sister, Annika McEnroe, will suit up for Cal this upcoming season.
McEnroe will join Gigi Johnson on The Farm as a member of the Class of 2026.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Stanford University! It has been my dream for as long as I can remember and I am thrilled to join such an amazing team. Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for helping me get to this point! GO CARD❤️? #fearthetree”
Primarily a sprint freestyler, McEnroe trains year-round with Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club and most recently won the 100m free at the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Orlando after collecting three gold medals at South Carolina Seniors in February.
She has also seen success at the YMCA National level. In July 2019, she earned silver in the 400m free and bronze in the 100m free at YMCA LCM Nationals after taking third in the 100 free at the short course meet in April 2019.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 22.92
- 100 free – 49.43
- 200 free – 1:47.26
- 200 IM – 2:00.96
- 200 back – 1:59.02
A rising senior at Spartanburg High School, McEnroe is a six-time South Carolina 5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100/200 free combo as a junior while taking second and first, respectively, in those events during both her freshman sophomore seasons.
McEnroe will make a big impact when she steps foot on campus. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free as well as the C-final of the 50/100 free at last year’s Pac-12 Championships.
Stanford’s incoming class this fall includes Aurora Roghair, Amy Tang, Anna Shaw, Samantha Tadder, Torri Huske and Meghan Lynch, as well as diver Lauren Burch.
