BERLIN, GERMANY – Former East German swimmer Christiane Knacke-Sommer, who won a bronze medal at the 1980 Olympics, will return all her medals. This move is in reaction to what her solicitor described as the systematic doping prevalent among East German athletes at that time. Knacke-Sommer’s move comes two days after her compatriot, Carola Nitschke-Beraktschjan, called for her performances to be removed from the record books.
