Anika discusses her three events wins at the A3 Invitational, including a 53.10 in the 100 Backstroke, which is the fastest collegiate time in the country this year.

Anika Apostalon says her underwater work plays a big role in her sprint speed, but says her freestyle tempo could improve.

The topic then switches to water polo. Anika says that switching mindsets from swimming to water polo isn’t a big deal to her and doing so helps to keep things fresh.

Also discussed is that her relatively newfound love of water polo made it difficult to choose just one sport at the college level, so ultimately she chose both.

Anika Apostalon was the No. 1 ranked swimmer in the state of New Mexico and 99th in the nation among 2013-14 recruits by College Swimming.com. As a senior in high school, she was an All-American in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke. Anika is a six-time high school state champion in New Mexico and has three individual and two relay state records.
