Andrea Filadelli & Lea Boy Claim Victories At Penultimate Leg Of European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup
Andrea Filadelli and Lea Boy claimed respective victories with final-lap charges at the fourth leg of the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup 2024 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The lead regularly changed hands in the men’s race with Fabio Dula of Italy, Switzerland’s Christian Schreiber and Simon Reinke of Germany in the leading places going into the final lap of five.
Filadelli was fifth, 4.45secs behind the leader, but he picked off the quartet ahead of him, and claimed victory in 1:54:30.35 despite the best efforts of Dula (1:54:32.72) and Ivan Giovannoni, who came from eighth at the start of the final lap to finish third in 1:54:38.41 as Italian swimmers secured a clean sweep of the podium.
Frenchwoman Ines Delacroix was ahead in the women’s race before being overhauled by Jeanette Spiwoks of Germany, Monaco’s Lisa Pou and Boy after lap two.
Pou moved into pole position, 1.55secs ahead of Spiwoks followed by Boy, with the Monaco swimmer heading the field going into the final lap.
It appeared that Pou – 18th in the 10k at Paris 2024 – may add to her title from Leg 2 in Barcelona in June.
However, Boy – who was third in the overall standings in the 2023 edition – made her move to win by almost four seconds, pulling away down the final chute to win in 2:04:29.38.
Pou claimed her second podium of the series in 2:04:33.24 with Spiwoks third in 2:04:33.89.
The European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup 2024 concludes in Razanac, Croatia, on Saturday 21 September.
