Amy Fulmer Returns from Pan Am Games to Lead Ohio State Win

Amy Fulmer, in her first meet back from representing the United States at the Pan American Games, led Ohio State to a 222.5-77.5 in-state win over Akron Friday.

Fulmer won the 200 freestyle in 1:47.93, a winning margin of nearly four seconds over teammate Teresa Ivan. Fulmer’s time of 49.20 won 100 free and marked the only NCAA B cut time of the day.

Fulmer split 49.44 off the 400 free relay, helping the team of Tristan Harrison, Ivan and Katherine Zenick to a win in 3:20.59.

Fulmer picked up three medals at the Pan Am Games, including silver in the women’s 400 free relay and the mixed 400 free relay. She won a gold for her prelims swim on the women’s 800 free relay and finished fifth in the women’s 100 free at the meet in Santiago, Chile.

The Buckeyes won all but two events in the home triumph. Gwen Woodbury swept the distance events with Maya Geringer second both times. Jessica Eden won the 200 butterfly in 2:00.55 and was second to teammate Krista Marlin (1:59.99) in the 200 backstroke.

Hannah Bach went 1:02.17 to win the 100 breaststroke and was third in the 200 breast. Zenick’s time of 22.93 won the 50 free ahead of Harrison, who was third in the 100 free. Zenick was second in the 100 fly. Reese Dehen won the 200 breast, and Josie Panitz won the 200 individual medley.

Harrison, Panitz, Zenick and Ivan, who was second in both he 100 and 200 free behind Fulmer, comprised the winning 200 medley relay.

Ohio State also swept diving thanks to Lena Hentschel, who scored 358.05 on 1-meter and 365.85. Janie Boyle was second in both.

Akron made sure the Buckeyes didn’t have it all their own way in Columbus. Maddy Gatrall went 54.80 to win the 100 backstroke in a 1-2 finish with teammate Abby Daniel. Daniel won the 100 fly in 53.94 and was third in the 200 IM. Madeline Dyer finished third in the 200 IM and 100 breast.
