Amanda Nunan, Arthur Markley Win Distance Titles on Night One of Christiansburg Sectionals
CHRISTIANSBURG – Amanda Nunan topped the women’s 1650 free, while Arthur Markley claimed the men’s 1000 free to kick off the Christiansburg Sectionals meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Egg Harbor Township Seahawks’ Amanda Nunan put on a clinic in the women’s 1650 free, out-distancing the field by nearly 30 seconds with a 16:39.91. Cardinal & Gold Aquatics’ Abigail Merriman separated herself for second with a 17:09.66. Danielle Clark of Retriever Aquatic Club dropped more than 27 seconds from her seed time to finish third in 17:15.59.
Meanwhile, Arthur Markley out-raced Five Star Swim Club’s Matthew Daniel for the men’s 1000 free title, 9:16.97 to 9:18.84. Columbia Aquatics Association’s Taye Baldinazzo claimed third in 9:29.38.
Retriever Aquatic Club leads the combined team standings after two events with 36 points, with the Jewish Community Center Sailfish in second (27 points) and Naval Academy Aquatic Club (26 points) in third.
