Alshammar Shines At World Cup XII
Left Sidebar
Malmo, Sweden – Therese Alshammar was on world-record pace before slowing in the women’s 50 meter freestyle Wednesday as Swedes dominated World Cup XII. Alshammar was clocked in 24.43, one of the fastest time ever and .34 off her world record. Only two other swimmers, including Jenny Thompson of the United States, have faster times. Alshammar made the turn two-tenths of a second faster than she did in December, when she broke the world record in the European Championships. The worlds will be held in Athens, Greece, in mid-March and a world record there is worth more bonus money than on the World Cup circuit.
