NEW COMMIT: Georgia Young of Santa Monica, Calif. will make her way to the East Coast next fall after verbally committing to Columbia University as a member of the class of 2024.*

Young swims year-round with Alpha Aquatics and most recently raced four events at Mount Hood Speedo Sectionals this past summer. Last winter, she competed five races at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals. Also competing for Crossroads School, Young is a six-time CIF Southern DIII Section Championship finalist and a two-time CIF State Championship qualifier. She placed second in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 fly as a junior after taking second in the 100 fly and fifth in the 100 back during her sophomore season at the sectional meet.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to continue my academic and athletic career at Columbia University. Being able to attend such an outstanding school while still having the opportunity to swim division one is a dream come true. Many thanks to Coach Octavio and Alpha Aquatics. Go Lions!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.84
  • 100 free – 51.60
  • 200 free – 1:50.31
  • 100 back – 57.53
  • 200 IM – 2:07.66

When she suits up for the Lions at the start of the 2020-21 season, Young will add valuable sprint freestyle depth to their lineup. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free at the 2019 Ivy League Championships and could be a crucial component to Columbia’s relays, even as a freshman.

If you have a commitment to share, please send a photo and quote via email to hs@swimmingworld.com.
