Allison Schmitt Announces Engagement to Gavin Walker
Olympic champion Allison Schmitt is engaged.
The four-time Olympian announced her engagement to Gavin Walker on social media on Monday.
“Cheers to planning our most special day of 2025,” she said.
Schmitt recently retired from swimming but has kept herself close to the sport in a number of ways.
“I have a few different hats going on. You always hear about athletes’ transition from sport to another career. It is a whole grieving process that we don’t always recognize,” Allison Schmitt said. “I am so grateful that I had that support throughout my own grieving process. I was able to take a year and go back and finish my masters. Now I have a few hats where I can use my career and my masters in social work.”
Schmitt is a Chief Empowerment Officer at BSN Sports.
“They just created a program called ‘SURGE’ which is a program for coaches to empower their female athletes. It gives them free resources to help build confidence and all of the great attributes that sports brings to you,” Allison Schmitt said. “It is aimed to keep girls in sports.”
She is a 10-time Olympic medalist. She won the 200 freestyle gold medal in London in 2012 and was the silver medalist in the 400 free, also leading the U.S. to multiple gold medals on relays.
The Canton, Michigan, native then was on multiple gold medal relays in Rio in 2016 and two more relay medals in Tokyo, her fourth Olympics and second as team captain.
Walker is a strength and conditioning coach.
Congratulations!
