All League Lacrosse Player, 500 Free NY State Champ Andrew Babyak Verbally Commits to Michigan
NEW COMMIT: Andrew Babyak, a New York High School state champion, has verbally committed to swim at the University of Michigan beginning in the 2018-2019 season. Babyak is a senior at Bronxville High School. He trains with Badger Swim Club under Coach John Collins in Larchmont, New York. Babyak is only in his second year of swimming year round. He was a multi-sport athlete, playing varsity lacrosse his first two years in high school. Babyak was an All Section and All League Defenseman.
In the pool, Babyak was the New York State Public High School and Federation Champion in the 500 free (4:26.26) last year. He also anchored his team’s winning 400 freestyle relay. At Speedo Sectionals last spring Babyak also won the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles. He is a two time NISCA All American and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.
Babyak has Winter Nationals and Summer Juniors cuts. His top times are:
- 200 Free 1:40.12
- 500 Free 4:26.26
- 1000 Free 9:13.09
- 1650 Free 15:26.79
He told Swimming World,
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at The University of Michigan! I want to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for supporting me throughout this process and putting me in the position to have this opportunity. I am looking forward to being part of the Michigan tradition. Go Blue!”
Babyak is not the only two-sport athlete Mike Bottom has picked up for the Class of 2022. Breaststroker Alexis Wegner played high school soccer. With a new year round focus on swimming Babyak has a significant upside. He’ll suit up next fall along with Patrick Callan, David Cleason, Will Chan, AJ Bornstein and Ian Miskelley.
So awesome!!!
Wow
Congratulations Andrew
