Alia Atkinson Posts World’s 10th Best 100 Breaststroke at Tennessee Invite
After cruising through prelims, a number of top swimmers stepped up in finals at the Tennessee Aquatics June Invite tonight.
Alia Atkinson topped Molly Hannis in tonight’s 100 breaststroke. Atkinson stopped the clock in 1:06.48. That time moved her to tenth in the world this year. Hannis finished in 1:07.72. Jenny Wilson completed the podium in 1:10.70.
After coming close this morning, Claire Donahue cracked a minute tonight, touching first in 59.06. Amanda Kendall was also under the barrier this evening, finishing second in 59.94. In third was Madeline Banic in 1:00.99.
Elizabeth Beisel beat Megan Romano for the 200 freestyle title tonight, as the two finished in times of 2:00.74 and 2:01.22. Eric Laning finished third in 2:02.16.
Bryce Bohman was first to the wall in the men’s 100 butterfly with a 53.80. Luis Martinez touched second in 54.04. Bronze went to Tyler Mills in 54.35.
In the men’s 100 breaststroke, Jorge Murillo Valdes touched the wall first in 1:01.71. Second place went to Brad Craig in 1:02.80. Third went to Michael Duderstadt in 1:02.98.
After a relaxed prelims swim, Caeleb Dressel turned his normal sprint speed into a 200 freestyle win tonight with a 1:48.39. That was new best time. Nicholas Sweetster swam a 1:51.71 for second. In 1:52.51 Trey Freeman placed third.
Emma Barksdale was victorious in the women’s 400 IM, finishing in 4:51.17. Hannah Kastigar stopped the clock in 4:53.00 for second. Third went to Sonia Wang in 4:55.51.
Sebastien Rousseau held onto his top prelims seed to win tonight in 4:21.94. Second went to Sam McHugh in 4:23.68. Charlie Swanson rounded out the top three in 4:27.77.
