Alexandra Lupto Sets 50 Free State Record During Texas 6A High School State Championships

AUSTIN— The 2015 Texas 6A State Championships are off to a blazing start with records falling during prelims with Alexandra Lupto claiming a new 50 free record.
The morning opened with the girls 200 medley relay team of Victoria Edwards (25.05), Catriona MacGregor (30.28), Dakota Luther (24.55) and Margaret Taylor (23.33) from Austin Westlake setting a new state and 6A record with a time of 1:43.21.
The girls 50 free showed three record-breaking swims but it was Humble Kingwood’s Alexandra Lupto who claimed the new state and 6A record in a swift 22.73 seconds. Jordan Wheeler of Humble Atascocita is currently seeded second with 22.85, while Dallas Highland Park’s Kate Boyer sits at third with 22.92.
Tomorrow is sure to bring quick races on both the girls’ and the boys’ side. On the boys’ side, the 200 free relay teams of Klein (1:24.14), Fort Bend Clements (1:24.52) and Austin Lake Travis (1:24.95) are all within one second of each other going into finals. While on the girls’ side it will be Humble Kingwood (1:35.83) and Humble Atascocita (1:35.91) dueling for the top spot.
