Alessandro Miressi Wins 100 Free In 47.88; Gregorio Paltrinieri Goes 7:46 in 800 Free At Italian Championships
Alessandro Miressi and Gregorio Paltrinieri both delivered eye-opening performances on day three of the Italian Championships in Riccione.
Miressi went 47.88 to win the 100 free with Paltrinieri having got the session off to a cracking start in the 800 free.
Miressi won individual silver among a five-strong haul at last year’s European Championships before going on to claim two relay medals at Tokyo 2020.
He split 22.84/25.04 to come home well clear of Lorenzo Zazzeri and his 48.45 in second and matched the 47.88 set by Lewis Burras at the British Championships in Sheffield.
Paltrinieri led the way in the 800 free in 7:46.01 with the Olympic silver medallist leading home four men inside 7:50.
Friend and teammate Gabriele Detti (7:48.07) was next home ahead of Luca de Tullio (7:49.19) with 15-year-old Lorenzo Galossi – who has credited Paltrinieri with being his inspiration – setting a new Italian age group record of 7:49.76 in fourth.
Simona Quadarella was also on good form as the 2019 world champion won the 1500 free in 15:59.32 ahead of Martina Caramignoli (16:08.03).
Alberto Razzetti took the men’s 200IM in 1:58.70 with Sara Franceschi claiming the women’s title in 2:11.94.
