Alberto Razzetti Sets National 400IM Record, Lowers Luca Marin’s 2007 Mark At Italian Open; Miressi Books Ticket To Paris

Alberto Razzetti took down Luca Marin‘s long-standing 400IM national record and Alessandro Miressi booked his slot at Paris 2024 on the third and final day of the Italian Open in Riccione.

It has been some few days for Razzetti who lowered his Italian 200IM mark to 1:56.21 on the opening night.

The 2022 European champion returned to complete the medley double in 4:09.29 and in the process sliced 0.59secs from Marin’s record of 4:09.88 set en-route to bronze behind Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte at the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

It was a 0.62 PB for Razzetti who has now booked himself a berth in both IMs at the Paris Games.

Razzetti – who was seven when Marin set his record – now stands at sixth European all-time, headed by Leon Marchand‘s 4:02.50.

He said through the Italian federation:

“It’s a great satisfaction for me.

“I knew I was worth this time and, in fact, I think I can still go down. I dedicate these days to my family, to Stefano (coach Stefano Franceschi) and to all my training partners: in Livorno there is a perfect environment for training.

“The double Olympic ticket means having a clear head and preparing as best as possible in these months”.

Also on the podium were Pier Andrea Matteazzi in 4:17.32 and Samuele Martelli (4:18.90).

Miressi Is Paris-Bound

Miressi joined Razzetti, Benedetta Pilato, Thomas Ceccon and Gregorio Paltrinieri on the plane to Paris with a 47.61 victory in the 100 free.

The double Olympic relay medallist split 22.85/24.76 to dip inside the 47.9 cut required for the Games which start in July next year.

It was 0.16 outside his Italian record of 47.45 set en-route to silver behind Kliment Kolesnikov at the 2021 European Championships in Budapest.

He said:

“I hadn’t swum like this for a while, but I knew these days that I was worthy of such a time.

“I felt great in the water and I think I didn’t do anything wrong. It’s not the time to ease tension now, because a long and challenging season awaits us.”

Manuel Frigo (48.63) and Paolo Conte Bonin (49.00) joined Miressi on the podium.
