NEW COMMIT: The University of Alabama has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Cole Witmer of Wilmington, North Carolina.

He will join Jarrett Payne in Tuscaloosa next fall.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama! Thank you to my coaches, teammates, and most importantly my family for supporting me along the way. Thank you to the Alabama coaching staff for this opportunity! Can’t wait to get to work. ROLL TIDE!!!”

A versatile swimmer who especially excels in backstroke, Witmer does his club swimming with NSEA Swim and earned 100% best times at Cary Sectionals in March where he won the 200 back. Last summer, he took fourth in the 100m back at North Carolina LCM Seniors.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 51.29
  • 200 free – 1:41.74
  • 100 free – 47.91

A rising senior at John T. Hoggard High School, Witmer raced to second in the 100 back at the 2023 North Carolina 4A State Championships. A year prior, he finished 18th.
