Akron Zips Up Another Verbal Commitment from Florida 3A State Runner-Up Julia Mauter
NEW COMMIT: The University of Akron has secured a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Winter Springs, Fla. native Julia Mauter.
She will join Kendall Craig, Amelia Kane, and Abby Daniel as members of the Zips’ class of 2025.
She told Swimming World:
“I am SO blessed and excited to announce that I have verbally committed to swim and study at the University of Akron! I could not be more grateful for my friends, family, coaches and teammates that have helped me reach this point. I can’t wait for the next 4 years with the best team on earth. And, for the first time every, GO ZIPS!”
A talented sprinter, Mauter does her club swimming with Blue Dolfins and is a Junior National qualifier. She had a strong showing at NCSAs last spring and recently notched a lifetime best at the Florida OT Qualifying Meet. Last summer, she earned a best time at Gainesville Sectionals before going on to place 24th in the 100m free at Greensboro Futures.
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.76
- 100 free – 50.99
- 200 free – 1:51.78
- 100 back – 57.53
- 100 fly – 56.76
Also competing for Winter Springs High School, Mauter is a six-time Florida State Championship finalist. She finished second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free as a junior at the 3A meet while taking fifth and ninth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season at the 4A meet.
Mauter will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when she gets to campus next year. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 free at the 2020 MAC Championships where, under head coach Brian Peresie, Akron clinched their seventh-straight team title.
