Air Force Earns First Verbal Commitment for 2020-21 Season from Breaststroker Audrey Hines
NEW COMMIT: The United States Air Force Academy has earned their first verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from York, South Carolina native and current high school junior Audrey Hines.
A talented breaststroker and freestyler, Hines does her club swimming with the Upper Palmetto YMCA Stingrays and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 200 breast. She most recently competed at YMCA SCY Nationals where she placed 19th in the 100 breast and took eighth in the 200 breast at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals. This past summer, she earned a trio of best times at YMCA LCM Nationals after racing to eighth in the 400m free at the South Carolina LCM Championships.
Also competing for Clover High School, Hines is a six-time South Carolina 5A State Championship finalist. She earned bronze in the 200 free and finished fourth in the 500 free as a junior after placing fourth and fifth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I am honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the United States Air Force Academy! I cannot wait to join such an amazing group of people and eventually serve my country. Thank you to my friends, family, coaches, and teammates who have supported me along the way. Go falcons! #AimHigh”
Her best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:04.26
- 200 breast – 2:19.50
- 50 free – 24.68
- 100 free – 52.74
- 200 free – 1:52.31
Hines will add valuable depth to the Falcons’ breaststroke training group when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024, as her best times would’ve scored in the C-final of both breaststroke events at the 2019 Mountain West Conference Championships.
