After Reinstating Program, Iowa Hawkeyes Receive Verbal Pledge From Olivia Asay
NEW COMMIT: Downers Grove, Ill. native and Futures qualifier Olivia Asay has verbally committed to the University of Iowa and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2022.
After originally planning to cut the program at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, the university decided to reinstate the women’s team.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Iowa! Thank you to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, family, coaches, and friends-teammates for all of your support, kindness, and love! #gohawks ?”
Asay trains year-round with Hinsdale Swim Club and most recently earned three best times at Pleasant Prairie Sectionals earlier this month where she finished 20th in the 200m fly. She also raced three events at the TYR 18&U Championships in Des Moines and finaled in the 50 fly at the NCSA Championships.
Her best times include:
- 200 IM – 2:06.42
- 50 fly – 25.73
- 100 fly – 55.66
- 50 free – 24.59
- 100 free – 53.00
A rising senior at Downers Grove North High School, Asay competed at the Illinois State Championships as a freshman in the 100 fly. During her sophomore season, she collected silver in the 100 fly and bronze in the 200 IM at the IHSA Hinsdale Central Sectional meet.
Asay is the first public commitment for the Hawkeyes’ Class of 2026.
