NEW COMMIT: After originally committing to East Carolina University, in-state standout Katie Knorr of Salisbury, N.C. has sent her verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina, Wilmington for the fall of 2021.

She will join Reece Alexander – who also verbally committed to the Pirates before re-committing to the Seahawks – in Wilmington next fall.

She told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at UNCW. I’m thankful for all my coaches, family, friends and ECU coaches who have helped me in getting where I am today! Let’s go Seahawks!”

A talented backstroker and IMer, Knorr does her club swimming with Mecklenburg Swim Association and owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 200 back. She most recently was the 200 back runner-up at North Carolina Seniors where she achieved five lifetime bests after. Last summer, she finished 18th in the 400m IM at Greensboro Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 58.42
  • 200 back – 2:00.66
  • 200 IM – 2:07.36
  • 400 IM – 4:25.46

A rising senior at Salisbury High School, Knorr is a six-time North Carolina 1A/2A State Championship finalist. She finished third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 back during both her sophomore and junior seasons while taking eighth in those events during her rookie campaign.

She will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Seahawks at the start of the 2021-22 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 back and 400 IM at the 2020 CAA Championships where UNCW finished fifth overall in the team standings.

In addition to Alexander, Knorr is newly-appointed head coach Bobby Guntoro’s second commitment for the class of 2025. Her twin sister, Emily Knorr, has verbally committed to West Virginia.
